Dependence | A Poem by Krushna Chandra Mishra

A sure way to own
And to leave disabled
For long and crippling times
From out of which respite
Is impossible
Is to help me
Till you are
I can’t do without you
Any more.

That is your success
And nobody can contradict
Your mind’s might beyond question
Stands established
To be shaken when
I rise from ruins
You are confident
I can hardly undo
Dependent that I’ve been
On every handicapping help
So convincingly
You have extended to me
Telling me I need it
And without receiving it
Now and ever
I in utter freedom
And no hesitation
Shall only do me harm
Maiming me beyond repair
For all the years to come.
