Once upon a Time | A Poem by Maryann Lising

Once upon a time, I made the decision to love another.
I made the choice, and you pushed me away.
You’re like snow – beautiful, but cold.
But the warmth of your hugs melt into me, right down to the core of my
body;
it leaves me flushed and happy.
The flashbacks are endless and they light a fire inside me.
You’re the reason I can’t sleep at three in the morning.
I make up little scenes inside my head,
hoping and wishing they’d happen.
I think of your smile, I think of your laugh and your sense of humor.
Once I do drift off to sleep though, I dream of you.
And I don’t know if that’s the worst part,
or the best.
