Beware Humanity | A Poem by Roy K. Austin

Winnowing the grain from chaff
cattle trucks are good enough,
steel on steel as rail to wheel
in transit to a destiny,
man is tried and horrified
for we are they and they are we-
let Sobibor make way for me;
as the heart cries out to name
who the culprit, what to blame,
humanity should die of shame,
males this way, females that
if slow you’ll get a rifle – butt,
to the right and to the left,
down the weedy rail bereft ;
heels click through closed borders,
sign the forms, received the orders;
hollow hope to resignation,
what devil planned this destination
where souls gaze in muted rage;
through the archway to oblivion,
bereft of all human love.
